Trek into a (Urban) Jungle

I walked towards the meeting area of the airport arrival hall, having just returned from a vacation. A friend of mine walked up to me and asked "how was your trip?"

As we walked to the parking garage where he parked his car, I described what happened during my trip.

After the plane arrived at an airport near my vacation destination, I boarded a bus to get to where I planned to stay. I have never been to the place before, so I checked for its location on the map. After a while, I realized that I was close to it. I signaled to the bus driver to stop at the next station. I got off the bus and looked around to in an attempt get my bearings.

The place was completely foreign to me — I was surrounded by unfamiliar faces and the sounds I heard were completely incomprehensible. I tried to find some markings that may offer hints as to where I was, but none was present.

I thought out asking members of the local population to find out the route I should take to get to my destination. However, it seemed that nobody understood anything I said and the reverse was true as well. It seemed likely that I had to find my destination on my own.

I walked around, not knowing which way to go. The locals moved at a torrid pace, only stopping when they receive signals that they should stop and let others pass through first. Giant behemoths of various colours darted past me at speeds I would never be able to reach. From time to time, I was able to hear rumbles underground. When I went below ground to check out what was going on, I saw gigantic, multi-compartment objects moving, stopping, unloading, eating, and moving again.

After a long walk, I was able to find the place I intended to visit. I unpacked my belongings and decided to check out what this place was like.

The locals were covered with all sorts of colours and the locals' hair was more colourful than the rainbow. Some were muttering strange tunes that I could not comprehend. I was also able to hear music coming from the creatures around me from time to time, even though their mouths were shut.

Most of the local population chose to eat at around the same time. The places where they obtain their food were often crowded at feeding time and those who were unable to find a place at one spot had to go and find another. The food sources often were not big enough to hold all those who choose to eat there and, as a result, many chose to grab their meals and move elsewhere to devour their food.

At night, the place was full of lights. Sometimes it was so bright that one could be tricked to think that it was daytime. Most of the creatures go into slumber at night, but there were also some residents that stayed active through the night. Most of the creatures had to climb many metres of tall structures to get to their residence, while some retreat to the hills or the coast to rest.

After I finished describing the place I went to, my friend turn to me and said "that was quite an interesting place. So where exactly did you travel to? It sounded like you went to a place that very few people have traveled to."

"Actually, quite the contrary, it was a modern mega city," I replied.
